Cabinets Day 4

Another wall of cabinets was added while we were out bowling this afternoon. They also installed the exterior door to the garage. Next week the hardwood will go in and we will have hardwood floors!

The wall oven and pantry.

Rolling pantry drawers & new exterior door.

The Cabinets are Going In!

Today, Rod and Don unwrapped all of the cabinets. They are so pretty! Don was able to set two of the cabinets, install the door to the basement and almost all of the exterior trim. Wow! That's a hard day's work!

The Hagar Fox HVAC guy stopped by to move the thermostat and humidifier controls. Brian purchased the NEST system and it kind-of freaked the guy out. He didn't want to install this controller and will have someone else come back and do it later - of course. I did watch the online video and it really did not look like a big deal. Serious eye-roll for this guy. I am tempted to fire this thing up tonight, but I should probably let the professionals take care of it...

The cabinets are ready to roll!

The first two are set.
The siding is almost finished and I can add the mailbox!

Zip-line Time!

We can't have all the fun just inside! We have two beautiful trees in the front yard that were beggin' us to install a zip-line. Will and Madeleine have just loved this new toy. Brian and I have taken a few turns (some more successful than others) on it as well. Here are a few pictures that I took of Will tonight.

A little bit of color...

What a fun day!

  • The ceiling is painted and the first coat of wall color is up! Love it!
  • Kate & Will had a baby boy! Wahoo!
  • Next up - installation of upper cabinets and trim!

The Color Run

We took a break from our remodeling fun this weekend and went to the Color Run in Lansing. It was a blast! We were covered from head to toe in color. Here are a few pictures:

Drywall

The drywall was installed today. This group was fast! The drywall has changed the look of the room. I finally have a sense of how it will look once it is finished. We just realized however, that they drywalled over a cabinet door. Guess we'll need to figure that one out...

We're Getting Closer

We made a few selections this week. Brian and I decided on a floor tile for the mud room and also chose out our granite and tile for the back-splash. It was so much fun to go to the granite warehouse and look at all of the rows of marble & granite! I thought that it would be overwhelming, but it was a blast! In the end, we chose Bianco Romano. It is grey and ivory with little bits of black and red veining.

We filled dumpster #2 and now we have dumpster #3!
The new mud room door and the temporary step from the mud room to the kitchen.

The drywall was delivered yesterday. I am hopeful that there will be a little work done before the weekend. That will really make our space start to feel more finished!

A Whole Lotta Action Today!

It was a busy day here.  The plumber was back helping us resolve a few plumbing issues and we are now back in business!  Hot showers and cold drinks all around!

The electrician finished the rough-ins. He even moved the pendant light locations after I stressed, analyzed, remeasured and then ultimately decided they needed a new spot.  Thank you for moving these lights! I am confident that they are perfect! Okay, maybe not confident, but less worried?

Wreck-It-Rod actually started putting a bit of the house back together today.  Our windows and doors arrived! He installed two new windows and framed in another wall.

The cabinets also arrived today. We have absolutely no room in the garage as our living room furniture is there, so the cabinets are being stored in the living room. Brian opened a box to check them out and they are so pretty!

Last week was a tough week. Not having fully functioning water is tiring. I was starting to feel a little overwhelmed by this project and wondering if we would ever get through it. Today was awesome! It was very exciting to have the windows installed and receive delivery of the cabinets. The end does not feel as far off today as it did last week.

These pendants caused me a lot of anxiety!
